Jones additionally emphasized that the signal was entirely unintentional, occurring amid the excitement following the team’s final touchdown. “I just put up the wrong digit,” he noted. “The action was inadvertently performed. This is sincere. If you want to call it unplanned, you can. However, it got corrected pretty quick.”

This incident isn’t the initial instance an league proprietor has been penalized for inappropriate behavior. Recent cases involve:
- Carolina Panthers proprietor Tepper was penalized $300K for throwing a drink at fans in early 2024.
- Then Titans proprietor Adams was issued a $250,000 penalty in 2009 for a comparable obscene gesture.
Jones, who is recognized for his publicity flair, possesses an estimated wealth of $16 billion, making the penalty easily payable for the billionaire proprietor.
