The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Pits The Beloved Duo Against a Tablet Computer
Exactly 30 years since the original Toy Story film was released, launching the animation giant as a major film company and introducing viewers to iconic characters like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a glimpse into the storyline but keeping viewers wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang
The preview shows the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a brand new toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the characters seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a carnival and assisting prize toys locate loving owners.
Certainly, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the badge pinned to her outfit.
Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
